You have a "live and let live" philosophy, However peculiar the actions or attitude of others, if it doesn't affect you personally, you'll ignore it.
But somebody you're close to isn't quite so detached. The person now want you to get upset on his/her behalf, which isn't just ridiculous, it would be dishonest.
